Adelong Alive Museum
Adelong Alive Museum tells the stories of Adelong and district, beginning in the gold rush period of 1852 and continuing to the present day. This community museum depicts the importance of gold to the town and the history of the Adelong Creek with working models relating to the gold battery.
This small but vibrant museum offers a variety of local displays and travelling exhibitions which are rotated regularly. It tells the stories of the struggles and achievements of the local people from as far back as 1851, plus there is small collection of artefacts and photographs.

The Adelong Falls Gold Mill Ruins
A must see destination is the state listed heritage industrial site of the Adelong Falls Gold Mill Ruins. The heritage gateway to the Snowy Mountains; it is one of the most important historic sites that identifies the discovery of gold in southern NSW and is a unique site that forms part of intensive gold mining landscape 1.5kms from Adelong.

Yarrangobilly Caves & Thermal Pool
Home to some of the most beautiful caves in Australia, the opportunity to see something unique and spelling binding are endless at Yarrangobilly. There is something for the entire family to do be that exploring underground caves, a dip in the thermal pool, bushwalking and or simply enjoying the shady trails and summer wildflowers. Birdwatchers can take some time to enjoy the birdsongs or view the endless variety of birds.
Explore the caves created 440 million years ago by taking a self-guided tour through the largest cave, called South glory or enjoy the other caves on guided Discovery tours. These amazing tours run three or four times daily (closed Christmas Day) and are not to be missed. During peak periods and holidays you can join the Aboriginal Discovery rangers for a unique, special and hands-on cultural encounter.

The Sugar Pine Walk
The Sugar Pine Walk is one of the region’s best kept secrets and is a must-see for any visitors to the area.
Take the short stroll amongst a dense stand of enormous sugar pines planted in 1928. This species is the largest and tallest of all pines.
Here you’ll find great opportunities for photography and, if you’re lucky enough to visit during the few days of snow that they see each year, it can be a magical experience.

Blowering Dam & Cliffs Walk
You’ll enjoy fishing, boating, waterskiing and swimming at Blowering Dam, where Ken Warby set the world water-speed record in 1978. Three times the size of Sydney Harbour, the dam is part of the Snowy Mountains Scheme, Australia’s greatest engineering project that creates hydro-electricity.
It is a 20 minute drive from Tumut or Talbingo. The Blowering Cliffs are a set of outstanding granite cliffs overlooking the Blowering Reservoir. The walking track goes to Blowering Falls and is quite steep in sections and passes through dense vegetation which grows on the damp, sheltered hillsides. The last section of the walk involves navigating around rock slabs which have fallen fro the cliff above.

Selwyn Snowfields
What about a day trip to the family friendly Selwyn Snowfields? Selwyn caters for beginners and seasoned skiers and snowboarders alike. Whether you like charging down the advanced black runs or taking it easy on the intermediate runs, Selwyn’s network of trails will keep your entire family entertained.

Adelong Fair & Antique Auction
Visit historic Adelong and enjoy a country fair. Stalls line the verandahed street, and an antique auction is held in the Adelonia Theatre during the day.

The Adelong P & A Society have been hosting an annual Show for over 100 years!

Tumut Festival of the Falling Leaf
Autumn in Tumut offers one of the most spectacular display of ‘ seasonal colours’ to be found anywhere in New South Wales.

Tumbarumba Tastebuds
Celebrate spring at Tumbarumba Tastebuds, combining the open Cellar Doors with Tumbarumba Garden Club’s annual Open Gardens and Flower Show.

Lanterns on the Lagoon
Lanterns on the Lagoon is a festival celebrating reflection, sustainable art and sculpture. Coinciding with the Spring equinox each year, this festival provides a platform for the community to enjoy a cultural experience in a relaxed environment.
Set in a beautifully serene park nestled next to the banks of the Tumut River, this free event hosts a range of family friendly activities from midday into the evening. Woodland Film Festival
Woodland is a grass-roots celebration of film, creativity and community and a unique outlet for filmmakers of all calibres to strut their stuff. Surrounding Area
Nestled on the bank of the Adelong Creek, Adelong is a town of some 900 residents. The main street is classified by the National Heritage Trust of Australia (NSW) with some buildings dating back to the gold rush. Adelong is the town that services the heritage listed site the Adelong Falls Gold Mill Ruins.
The name ‘Adelong’, believed to be derived from the local Aboriginal dialect and meaning ‘along the way’, was said to have been adopted from Adelong Station which stretched from Tumblong on the Hume Highway to Batlow.
The Adelong Alive Museum has a scale model of the Reefer ore crushing mill and working models of ore crushing machinery together with information on the Adelong and district gold rush. A booklet by Tom Wiles on the Reefer Battery can be purchased for those wishing to know more about this ingenious mill.
A heritage walk booklet is available at the Tumut Region Visitor Centre and the Adelong museum for visitors interested in seeing more of Adelong’s heritage.
